# AI Usage

Here is how I am using generative AI/LLM tools currently[^1]
- Although I am often a user of [[Anthropic]]'s [[Claude]], I mostly use it as a sounding board to get unstuck and quickly iterate through my own bad ideas. It's often comparable to [rubberducking](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_duck_debugging).
- At times I may use an AI tool to get suggestions for copyediting a specific paragraph or sentence, but I still make it a point for me to hand type the final result. In those situations, I am often reordering the structure of a sentence for clarity or removing extraneous lines that aren't truly needed.
- Lately I have been using the [Obsidian Web Clipper Extension](https://obsidian.md/clipper) to capture content I find online that I want to hold onto, that includes parsing the content of the page such as the text or transcript and generating a summary I can quickly read a recap for or find via search more easily.
- Outside of writing, my most common AI usecase is working through coding problems and this is increasingly becoming less common. I've found AI tools to be useful for helping me find the right verbiage in documentation or blog posts that cover the coding challenges I come across. At times, I also use AI to break down abstract concepts into more digestible content or write basic examples of more complex ideas.
- From time to time, I use AI to document code or explain error messages as well.
- I will never use AI image generation tools as a replacement for real artistic/creative work. With regard to imagery, the only place where AI is used is the spot remove tool in Adobe Lightroom.
- This is not an exhaustive list but if you're curious about something or think I should have mentioned something that isn't here, [please feel free to reach out/call me out](https://bsky.app/profile/taurean.bryant.land).
**tldr;** I definitely got caught up in the initial hype whirlwind but I've since found that whatever short-term benefit I get from most UI use cases has a negative long-term impact if I become too reliant on it. It's better for me in the long run to **do the workâ˘**.
